Hallelujah for the Rule of Law! Shame on the Dissenting Opinion!

Posted by saintluke on 2008 June 12

http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2008/06/12/uscourt-gitmo.html THE SUPREME COURT SAYS DETAINEES HAVE HABEAS CORPUS!!!! Some of our Guantanamo Prisoners have been in jail for 6 years WITHOUT A CHARGE! Out of the 270 men there, we are now going to try 80 of them finally, and send the rest home. WHAT? If we have to send them home, that means we never had charges on them (even secret ones – unless they are ones we aren’t willing to share). If we are willing to let them go, then we have been guilty of kidnap and hostage holding! Which we are.

The vote was 5-4, with the court’s liberal justices in the majority. Conservative judges, led by Chief Justice John Roberts, wrote dissenting opinions warning of the effect of the ruling at a time of “war with radical Islamists.”

Justice Anthony Kennedy, writing for the majority, said, “The laws and constitution are designed to survive, and remain in force, in extraordinary times.”

TRUE THAT! Anthony Kennedy. John Roberts has shown that his loyalty is to party/administration ideology over against his responsibility to uphold the CONSTITUTION! From Wikipedia (on Supreme Court Checks and Balances): in Federalist No. 78, Alexander Hamilton writes: “A constitution is, in fact, and must be regarded by the judges, as a fundamental law. It therefore belongs to them to ascertain its meaning, as well as the meaning of any particular act proceeding from the legislative body. If there should happen to be an irreconcilable variance between the two, that which has the superior obligation and validity ought, of course, to be preferred; or, in other words, the Constitution ought to be preferred to the statute.” From Reuters:

The majority consisted of the court’s four liberals — Justices John Paul Stevens, David Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer, plus the moderate conservative Kennedy, who often casts the decisive vote.

The four conservative dissenters were Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito, both appointed by Bush, and Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas.

See Keith Olbermann on the issue when the right of Habeas Corpus was being taken away:

Ron Paul Suggested Reading Book List

Posted by saintluke on 2008 February 12

According to Conservapedia

“Paul seemed to have dropped slightly in the polls that followed the second Republican debate in Columbia, South Carolina, to 25 percent. This was probably as a result of his suggestion that weekly bombing of Iraq following Operation Desert Fox in December 1998 may have contributed sufficiently to Arab anger at the United States as to make the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks inevitable. Paul was excoriated by Rudy Giuliani, who said that this was the most bizarre explanation for the attacks he had ever heard. Other Republican commentators sought to explain Paul’s continued strength in post-debate polls as the result of multiple votes by his supporters or voting by non-Republicans. In response to Rudy Giuliani, the next day at the National Press Club, Ron Paul offered Rudy a book list to read regarding the issue of American foreign policy.”

These books are

Here’s a video about it the book list:

There is also a great video on Wolf Blitzer where Ron Paul explains the problems with the US Policy, and that he doesn’t blame Americans, rather military/foreign policy. He calls our policy “bad foreign policy,” saying “it’s not Conservative, it’s not Republican, and it’s not constitutional.”

Orson Scott Card: Bhutto’s Death Shows Who Our Candidates Really Are

Posted by saintluke on 2008 January 20

Orson Scott Card’s Column:

The death of Benazir Bhutto is a very sad thing for her family, a tragedy for her political party, and a historical complication that might well have far-reaching — and devastating — effects on Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the overall war against Fascist Islam.

But that’s not what I’m going to talk about right now. Because as we enter 2008, we’re going to get into the presidential campaign in a big way. And the responses of the various candidates to Benazir Bhutto’s death tells us an enormous amount of valuable information about how they would do as president of the United States.

After all, the only aspect of the government that the president absolutely controls is our foreign policy, ranging from diplomacy to warfare. Congress can meddle, mostly by giving mixed or negative signals to foreign powers — but governments of other countries are very much aware of the difference between the president and Congress when it comes to international relations. Unfortunately, most of the candidates still on the auction block have no clue.

The day of Bhutto’s murder, here’s how the candidates scored:

New Page – Out of Iraq Now! – Video of Attrocities in Iraq

Posted by saintluke on 2008 January 15

I’ve started a new page – you can see the label up top – “WE MUST LEAVE IRAQ NOW.”

This is one video I have included there. It is 45 minutes long – and graphic. It is called: “The Death Squads”. It details atrocities such as: the people we have put into power for police are systematically executing masses, and there are hundreds in secret prisons without charges.

THE FOLLOWING is a Trailer from YouTube – I didn’t put up the whole 45 min version here because the opening shot is full of dead bodies. – But you CAN access it at my IRAQ page above, or by clicking here.

From: Muslims for Ron Paul Yahoo Group: “Ron Paul Black Man’s Best Friend.”

Posted by saintluke on 2008 January 11

A quote from a Muslim site:

Is Dr. Paul a racist? No, Dr. Paul WILL SET YOU FREE. We need to
emphasize his prison release program and of make sure people realize
that Hillary and Obama are NOT going to end war, they want new wars.
Ron Paul is the Black Man’s Best Friend. He is going to bring your
sons home from the war and release all non-violent drug offenders from
prison his first day in office, he said.

Ron Paul has more Black supporters than any other Republican candidate and more active US military personnel supporters than any other candidate.

Israel/Palestine

Posted by saintluke on 2007 March 28

This CT article is heavily critical of Carter’s views. How do I go about ACTUALLY learning what I should about Israel and Palestine. I am very UNLIKELY to feel like something is true if it seems slanted at Israel.

Any suggestions?

Luke
